Didnt like driving this little Pug at all but it was solid enough. Only issue is the engine was pretty noisy and its hard to work out whether or not it’s normal. Ive driven a 2011 and a 2013 which were much quieter so I’m concerned it has a problem. The noise sounds like badly adjusted valves mixed with not running on all cylinders (that may be normal since it is a 3 cylinder).
All in all this car search confirms the Twingo/Clios are nice cars and the Fiesta is a fantastic all rounder, but a lot of the other budget stuff is very underwhelming. A lot of the other competent cars like the Yaris depreciate too slowly to really hit our budget. It basically comes down to the choice I made when I bought my own car, Twingo, clio or Fiesta.
Pug was a 2006 listed at £1500.
Tried to add a pic from my phone but kinja isn’t having it, so that’s a stock pic up top. Only difference is the one I viewed was silver and a three door.

I rented a Clio to drive from Malaga to Seville. It was pretty fun and could hold three people and their luggage. I could not work the infotainment center at all though. For whatever reason, if I wanted to hear the GPS, it meant having to have the radio blasting a Spanish radio station.
It's funny, because I once had a rental Nissan Versa when my car was in the shop and I DESPISED IT. I don't know if having a manual made that much of a difference or if Nissan just purposely made the car awful.

I think it’s just the earlier ones, had a few as loaners and they all made awful noises, plus hateful things to drive, dreadful seats, nasty interiors and laughable suspension and handling, just really shit cars. A Corsa, even with the (much nicer sounding and revving than the one in these) 1ltr 3 cylinder is a much nicer car and Corsa’s aren’t exactly the last word in sophistication!

All fantastic choices for an enthusiast, but do you really want one of those greats in the hands of a man who doesn’t consider oil changes a necessity?

Yeah I’m not at all a fan of the 107, I also strongly dislike the corsa though...

Oh yeah old Corsa’s are dreadful but 107\C1\Aygo’s are such much worse. Really Fiesta is your best bet, keep away fro 206\207's as well cos they tend to fall apart. Clio’s are good though.

Hired one once. Blue just like this, automated manual. It was noisy on motorways and small and cheap feeling (but then again, it is small and cheap).
Try and get them into a car one size up from this. They’ll need a Fiesta or equivalent.

It has a demented smile that says
